Private
First Class Mason Hoy has always been a very patriotic
young man. From the time he was little, he would be the
first one to remove his hat and put his hand on his
heart during the national anthem. He would look for
military license plates in parking lots, scout down the
veterans, shake their hands, and thank them. Even his
bedroom was decorated in red, white and blue, adorned
with photos of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.
After the attack on 9/11, he was even more determined to
protect our country's freedoms. He has achieved the
title of "honor man" within his platoon. His family has
prepared him well for manhood. The Marine Corps has
prepared him for battle. His family prays for his safety
and for the safety of his fellow Marines. We are proud
of the man he has become and proud to part of the Marine
Corps family.

Richard Matthews is my 2nd
cousin. He is serving in Baghdad. He is a wonderful
person. His wife Lawnie is really supportive of him.
So are his parents. Richard loves the job he does
for the military, which is Combat Engineer. His job
includes hunting down and neutralizing roadside
bombs or (IED's), trying to help keep the soldiers
and Iraqi people safe.
